Our demands.
OPTION 1
Honor the original closure timeline
Keep De Zavala open through the 2026–2027 school year as previously promised.
Identify an alternative solution for Daggett Montessori that does not displace current De Zavala students prematurely.
OPTION 2
If displacement proceeds, protect De Zavala families
If the superintendent’s recommendation will proceed with early closure, we demand the following stipulations are included in the vote.
Part 1: Protect the integrity of an informed school choice timeline
The district exists to serve students and families and continues to fall short.
Problems with the current alternative proposed by the district:
The district broke its word, leaving families scrambling to find alternatives after the Gold Seal School Choice application window and first round selection had closed.
There is no clear plan for families who do not live in the revised Daggett Elementary and Lily B. Clayton school zones, abandoning families who opted in to De Zavala’s program of choice due its well-established two-way dual language program and A-rating.
We demand:
Reopen or adjust the Gold Seal School Choice application window specifically for De Zavala families.
Grant De Zavala families transfer and acceptance priority to the FWISD program and/or campus of their choice, regardless of zip code and current capacity constraints. If there is a capacity constraint, we expect the district to solve it.
Ensure no child is penalized due to the district’s timing and current campus capacity. We are demanding that the district solves the problem it has created.
Part 2: Preserve our high-fidelity dual language program
De Zavala’s Dual Language program is a critical asset to our community.
Problems with the current alternative proposed by the district:
Lily B. Clayton has a dual language program but does not have sufficient seats.
Lily B. Clayton program performance does not match De Zavala’s success.
The majority of current De Zavala Dual Language families reside outside the revised Lily B. Clayton zone.
We demand:
Launch a high-fidelity Two-way Dual Language program at Daggett Elementary.
Give De Zavala two-way dual language students priority enrollment and guaranteed placement, without any requirement for reapplication to dual language lottery.
Guarantee placement for De Zavala two-way dual language certified teachers at Daggett Elementary.
Provide Daggett Elementary district support services to maintain program integrity, quality, and continuity.
Our students deserve stability — not fragmentation.
