Join the fight to save A-rated De Zavala Elementary
Out of 80 elementary schools in Fort Worth ISD, De Zavala is one of only four to earn an A rating — yet district leaders are seeking to close it. Stand with our families to protect access to high-quality education in Fort Worth.
Don’t let FWISD fail us.
At a state level, Only 27% of all Texas schools receive an A-rating and, among them, the average percentage of economically disadvantaged students is just 43%.
De Zavala Elementary stands out because it defies the odds—nearly 80% of its students are economically disadvantaged, yet they are excelling at the highest levels. De Zavala is 1 of only 10 total schools in FWISD achieving an A-rating.
De Zavala Elementary is where the American Dream begins.
Every recommendation in the Facilities Master Plan for the Paschal Pyramid proposes closing De Zavala. But in a district that urgently needs the kind of outcomes De Zavala is delivering, why would we shut it down? Why would we take away one of our strongest schools and offer some of our top-performing students fewer—and worse—options?
The fact that Fort Worth ISD recently closed a 5 consecutive year F-rated school and is now seeking to close a 3 consecutive year A-rated school just doesn’t make sense. More critically, the plan to close a high-performing school in a low-performing district sends a devastating message to our community: that excellence among Latino, Black, immigrant, and low-income students is not worth protecting. The families of Fort Worth deserve better.
